It’s Never too Early!

With the miserable Tennessee heat, that will only being getting worse over the next two months and the fact that I will not be visiting the beach this year, I have decided that summer is over. That’s right, done, absolutely no reason left for it to hang around any longer.

So I have been preparing for Christmas! With huge families, Christmas is always so busy and this year is even more so with graduating, job searching, and a possible move, it’s never too early to start planning.

I have already informed some family members of what I would like for Christmas, decided on a whole new present for the females in the family and even decided on some handmade presents for a few. I have even picked up so vintage holiday scrap material and ribbon from Etsy and Southern Thrift.

Since this might be the last Christmas I’m living around my families, I am determined to make it the best one yet!

When I started interning I told myself that I would not be lazy on Saturday’s and sleep the day away but make the most of my day off. And that’s exactly what I did-

thrifting for 60 records (that will hopefully lead to new opportunities)

lunch at bobbie’s dairy dip- where else can you get delicious food, amazing dessert, and sing ‘leader of the pack?’

for those who love peanut butter

chocolate in its greatest form- covering any fruit

heaven! managed to only walk away with two new fabrics

and despite the heat

belcourt parking lot, for the viewing of raising arizona.

It was my most perfect day but the best part was getting to spend it with this guy.

Mark your calendars! And get your project list ready! We missed it last year, literally by one day! But not this time!

(image from here)

I plan on picking up some fabric for upcoming projects and maybe even some just because I love them. I might even start my birthday by being there as soon as they open. (it’s not to late everyone, gift cards are welcomed!) Thankfully the sale is all month, I’m sure I’ll be there multiple times.

  • There is a huge fabric sale going on tomorrow at Textile Fabrics. I’ll be there when they open at 10, hopefully I wont spend all my money.

  • I’m going through a zipper obsession. I wanted to get some to add to my snack bags and I found someone on Etsy that sales them for cheap, cheap, cheap. Thank you kandcsupplies! I got 40 zippers in all different lengths and colors for 22 dollars with shipping. Check out my bouquet of zippers, I’m in love with all the bright colors.

  • Lots are going on in my herb garden.

Basil is growing more and more!

Rosemary & Lavender are beginning to come to in!

HELP! I think my cilantro is dying. Should I move it outside?

AH! I DID IT!

I made my very first skirt! I have been putting this off for weeks now. I decided at the beginning of the year that I wanted to learn how to make skirts, lots and lots of skirts. I found this tutorial on one of my new favorite blogs Freshly Picked. It seemed fairly easy and super cute!

So this is my first attempt at it-

That’s all you need- for my fabric I used a vintage sheet that I got from Goodwill for 2 dollars!

This was the part that I was most scared about, as it turns out it was actually easy. All you do is gather and pin and then when your sewing you pull the elastic so the fabric lays flat.

Finished project! (yes I am standing on the toilet)

Even has pockets!

I love how the vintage sheet fell and felt- like it has already been worn in.

I’m planning on making another one soon or at least taking the elastic out of this one and fixing it a little more. See you can’t tell but its kinda uneven on the top and I sewed the elastic the wrong way AND I didn’t gather enough in some places so in other places the skirt folds over. But hey it’s my first skirt!

Who is this guy?

Lately my days have been filled with spending hours and hours on Etsy. I recently stumbled across some of the most amazing fabric I have ever seen, created by Michael Miller. I had never heard of him, probably because it’s not a him. Michael Miller was created by Michael Steiner and Kathy Miller. Check them out on their website or on Etsy.

Here are some of my favorites:

Funky Christmas

Kids Retro
