Did you say bags?

Oh I’ve got your bags!

51 to be exact!

This weekend I finished up all my non-Christmas projects! A letter bag for a work friend that will be filled with happy thoughts & good luck wishes! And 50 favor bags for an upcoming wedding!

Lots of work and now it’s time for nonstop Christmasing!

Fall is in the air… and on the walls.

This is the first year that I have decorated for Halloween or even put up fall type decorations. Quite frankly I am loving it, it makes the apartment homey.

Here are two ideas I stole and made this fall:

Acorn Wreath. I made one back in September except used almonds. For mine, I used acorns that we found on MTSU’s campus. I can’t decide which one I like more. (Side note, running around with my family outside the social work office gathering acorns hands down the most fun I’ve ever had on campus!)

Spider Web. Too cute right? I just so happened to have an embroidery hoop and the perfect doily.

Love these ideas too:

Photo and idea taken from Dana over at MADE. I’ll hopefully get some made and up before our Halloween/ Welcome Back Caleb party next weekend.

Found this on Etsy and LOVE it! Hopefully I’ll get around to making one next fall.

I have recently developed a problem and I’m beginning to think there isn’t a cure. I can’t seem to finish any project. I get all the supplies, get everything around, even start most of them I just can’t see them through anymore.

The granny squares are left over from March, started the santa cloth last weekend and got so close to finishing and decided to start on a scarf.

Is this normal for knitting and crocheting projects?

Literally.

I have been wanting to try making a record bowl for a while and had I known it was so easy I would have done it sooner.

1. Heat oven to 200. Place a bowl upside down on a cookie sheet, place record on top.

2. Leave in oven for less than ten minutes. Be sure to watch it.

3. Mold. You have about 10 seconds to do this.

And done!

I decided to participate in the Summer Vintage Swap, it was quite different from the last but still great fun. Checking out new blogs, shopping for others and meeting new people is always a blast.  I got partnered with Tracee from Vermont, check out her blog, Time Stand Still.

I mailed Tracee’s package today and be eagerly anticipating the arrival of mine.

In honor of my 100th post, I have some very exciting news to share. My blog was featured in the paper! Well kinda. See for yourself.

Granted it’s the Tennessean, in the Williamson County section but hey it’s still exciting! Exciting that Craft Hope is growing and more people are being informed. Exciting that people are stepping up and even more exciting that it involves children. And super exciting that I was a tiny part in something so huge.

If you haven’t heard, Craft Hope was about to donate 65,000 towels to the IMMS this past weekend. That’s enough to last them for years! Due to the overwhelming response, Craft Hope is asking for individuals to hold off on making anymore and to send in what you have already made and collected to Craft Hope’s new address: P.O. Box 341774 Austin, TX 78734. Thank you to Jade for Craft Hope and congratulations on the new book!

I collected the rest of our donations this week from Ang, that included her’s and Lynda’s. Our goal was 100 rags and 10 bottles of Dawn. I’m happy to announce that we reached our goal and then some!

217 RAGS AND 16 BOTTLES OF DAWN!

I am extremely thankful for Craft Hope and Kimberly for putting this all together. I am so grateful for the readers of Our Little Nest and A Fish Out of Water, and community members of East Nashville for their willingness to help. We were just a very small part of these amazing project that is now reaching numbers as high as 15,000!

The boxes were mailed late Friday night and should arrive to Kimberly in Pensacola by Tuesday.

As of 7/11/2010: The total is 30,000 towels!

7/15/2010: 60,000 towels!

Being A Part of Change.

I love being apart of something much bigger than myself. It also makes it so much more meaningful that it’s something I genuinely feel strongly about on so many different levels. Craft Hope has been perfect for me, they have combined all my loves into one thing.

I don’t attend church anymore but the feeling of knowing its our job to help others and hasn’t left me and probably never will. Craft Hope has provided me with that sense of community of loving and caring for each other, being the change and making the difference. And actually being able to make something, is amazing. I have now finished 3 projects with Craft Hope and plan to keep on.

For this last project, I went to Goodwill and bought 3 huge sheets to cut into washcloths and towels. I even bought a new tool, a rotary cutter and mat, to help with the project. (It’s crazy that I have gone this long without having one!)

From the three sheets I was able to make 50 rags! I also picked up 3 bottles of Dawn. I’ll post our grand total and mail everything out on Friday.
